Grand Lake Visitor Information

Grand Lake, Colorado awaits you... a historic mountain town in the heart of the Colorado Rockies and the Western Gateway to majestic Rocky Mountain National Park.  Nestled below craggy, snowcapped mountain peaks, this charming village is just one mile from the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.

If you're looking for a mountain town with chain restaurants, outlet malls and all the big city businesses, you need to look elsewhere.   If your idea of a mountain retreat has enough modern conveniences to keep comfortable, but places an emphasis on the historic nature of a mountain town and the surrounding wilderness, Grand Lake is for you.

Check out some of the attractions and shopping in Grand Lake.

There are no chain restaurants in Grand Lake.  Every shop is locally owned and has their own personality.   You can't go wrong with the Sagebrush bar and grill.   Grand Lake Brewing has a great selection of beers brewed at over 9000 feet.   And Daven Haven Lodge has incredible steaks.   Rapids Lodge is also has a great vibe - next to the creek with abundant wildlife.  Take a look at what Grand Lake has to offer.    The Tabernash Tavern is also worth a stop if you're heading home from a day at Winter Park.

Grand Lake is nestled on the western side of Rocky Mountain National Park.   Trail Ridge Road winds through the park from Estes Park on the East to Grand Lake on the West.  Estes is a popular destination to be sure, but the crowds can be bad during the summer tourist season and fall colors.   Grand Lake is the 'quiet side' of the park and offers access to many trails, tons of wildlife, and impressive vistas.   No trip to Grand Lake would be complete without at least a small drive into Rocky Mountain National Park.

Winter Park is just 30 minutes down the road, with some of the best skiing in Colorado.  Ski Granby Ranch is closer.  It's not as challenging but a great family friendly resort.    If skiing isn't your cup of tea, try the tubing hill in Fraser.   Winter Park is also great in the summer with tons of mountain bike trails and on mountain activities.   Winter Park is a great place to spend a day with tons of activities and entertainment.
